What is Diploma of Advanced Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy (Dip. AMPT)
The Diploma of Advanced Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy (Dip. AMPT) offered by the Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute (APTEI). The APTEI offers numerous continuing education courses for physiotherapists, including (but not limited to) training in chronic pain, IMS, acupuncture, TMJ and orthopaedics. It is important to note that while few therapists have their Dip. AMPT, many physiotherapists have taken courses through the APTEI. Many physiotherapists perform techniques or speciality treatments that were developed through continuing education with the APTEI.
Physiotherapists receive their Dip. AMPT after successfully completing the 5 Advanced Certification programs offered by the APTEI as well as written and practical examinations. The Advanced Certification programs are usually 4-days in length (per program). Each program is dedicated to different regions of the body and pain science. Therapists taking the Advanced Certification programs are taught a wide-range of skills and theoretical knowledge focused on the neuromusculoskeletal system. This means physiotherapists learn about the interactions between your bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood supply and nerves. Physiotherapists enhance their differential diagnostic skills and learn new treatment techniques. Techniques include manual therapy (hands-on skills), therapeutic exercise, taping, pain education and much more!
