What is Women's Health physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy in the area of Women's Health focuses on diseases and issues that are relevant to women.  Women's Health is applicable in all practice settings and some therapists may take a special interest in this area.  The Women's Health Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association is dedicated to providing information about women's health to physiotherapists.  This includes but is not limited to "bone health, domestic violence, HIV and AIDS, pelvic floor dysfunction related to continence issues or sexual dysfunction, lymphedema, or cardiovascular disease issues that are particularly relevant to women" (WHD, 2019).
Pelvic health physiotherapy has become more available and better known in recent years.  Pelvic health is only one (but very important) component of women's health.
Physio Roots aims to identify clinics that market themselves as practicing in the area of women's health.  In most cases these clinics also practice pelvic health but this may not always be the case.  Please ensure you check with the clinic before booking an appointment.
